Fully Funded Dartmouth College Scholarships: Dartmouth has over 1,000 individual named endowed scholarship funds that support our financial aid program. Eligible students are automatically paired with these opportunities by the Financial Aid Office as the source of their financial aid funding in a given year.

If you are paired with one or more specific scholarship funds, you will be notified by email, and you may be asked to supply a thank-you letter to your donor or additional information for a scholar profile. Being paired to one or more funds will not change the amount of aid that you receive.

Dartmouth College offers various scholarships and financial aid options to help students cover the costs of their education. These scholarships can be merit-based, need-based, or a combination of both.

Types of Dartmouth College Scholarships

Need-Based Financial Aid: Dartmouth College is committed to meeting the demonstrated financial need of all admitted students. They use a need-blind admission policy, meaning they admit students regardless of their ability to pay and meet the full demonstrated financial need of all admitted students with a financial aid package that includes grants, work-study, and loans.

Merit-Based Scholarships: Dartmouth also offers merit-based scholarships to exceptional students. These scholarships may be awarded based on academic achievements, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, or other outstanding accomplishments. Merit-based scholarships are typically awarded to students during the admissions process.

Special Scholarships and Grants: Additionally, Dartmouth may offer special scholarships or grants to students based on specific criteria such as academic major, geographic location, or other factors. These scholarships may be sponsored by donors, alumni, or specific departments within the college.

External Scholarships: Dartmouth encourages students to seek out external scholarships from organizations, foundations, and other sources outside of the college. The financial aid office provides resources and guidance to help students identify and apply for external scholarships.

Dartmouth Scholarships are need-based and are given without expectation of repayment. Amounts may range from $1,000 to over $50,000, depending on your expected family contribution. You will automatically be considered for these funds when you apply for aid.

DARTMOUTH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS

Some Dartmouth students will be selected as recipients of one or more of our over 750 endowed scholarship funds. These awards are not additional money, but indicate that the aid already awarded will come from a specific endowed fund. No separate application is required.

Students receiving these scholarships write their donor a note of thanks annually. Many even meet their donors, which can lead to amazing networking opportunities.

OUTSIDE SCHOLARSHIPS

If you have been awarded outside scholarships (based on any criteria: academic, civic or athletic achievement for example), this money will help reduce your own expenses.

At Dartmouth, scholarships from external sources will cut your expected student loans and job earnings first. If outside scholarships total more than your self-help, your family’s contribution can be reduced to the federal level. Only if you have earned so many scholarships that they exceed this level will Dartmouth’s aid amount be reduced.

VETERAN’S BENEFITS

Dartmouth regards Veteran’s benefits as outside scholarships that you have earned and they will be used to reduce your own expenses.  See the Veterans Section for more information.

FEDERAL GRANTS

For U.S. citizens or permanent residents, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the only form required to apply for Federal Financial Aid.

The federal government provides Pell Grants to students who qualify on the basis of financial need as determined by their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) are awarded by the College to the most needy students. They vary in amount but do not exceed $4,000 a year.

STATE GRANT PROGRAMS

Some states have need-based grants for undergraduate students which may be used at Dartmouth. State grants may be included in your overall grant eligibility, but are not counted until they are received from the state, at which time they will reduce Dartmouth scholarship, dollar-for-dollar. Contact the Financial Aid Office for the most recent information about your state’s grant program.

ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS

Dartmouth College Scholarship Benefits

Full Scholarships to Dartmouth

King Scholars attend Dartmouth for four years at no cost to students or their families. This includes;

• tuition
• accommodation
• health insurance,
• a new computer in the first year, and
• annual travel between Dartmouth and the student’s home country.

Strong Support

• King Scholars receive pre-orientation support and mentoring services to help with the transition to college and ongoing academic mentoring throughout their Dartmouth careers.
• All King Scholars are part of the First Year Student Enrichment Program, an intensive experience that prepares students to handle many of the challenges they will face during the course of their first year. 
• They are also part of a supportive and close-knit community of fellow Scholars and students.
